RULES AND GUIDELINES FOR PUBLISHING

So here's the not as fun part, where we talk about rules and guidelines for publishing and what kind of behaviors are not ok on Don't Forget To Be Writing. We're not expecting any problems, because Nerdfighteria strives to be a safe, welcoming community, but some reminders never hurt.

Rules:

1.

  • Racism
  • Sexism
  • Homophobia
  • Trans*phobia
and other forms of intolerance are NOT ok, and stories espousing those beliefs will be removed from the blog. Note that this does not include writing which features intolerance as a plot point or conflict, only writing that promotes, approves, or contains it as a result of the author's biases. Your writing impacts how other people think, so don't use it to make them hate themselves or others.

2. As much as we want to hear about the writing you love, we don't want copyright issues. Please don't post anyone else's work, even if you attribute it to them. In addition, if you see that plagiarism has slipped past us, please let us know.

Guidelines:

1. Composition lengths: You're welcome to create works that are as long or short as you like and post them on the blog, but we're also poor, so to save money on printing, especially long pieces will probably not be included in the zine. Sorry!

2. Trigger warnings: Writing can be very therapeutic, and we want to publish pieces on all kinds of subjects. We merely ask that if your writing features a subject that could be upsetting or triggering for some readers, you put a trigger warning at the beginning of it. For example, if you wrote a story where a character commits suicide, you would put tw:suicide, tw:depression at the very top of the story, then skip a few lines, and then have the story underneath.

3. Supportiveness: When commenting on other people's work, be kind! People won't feel comfortable publishing on DFTBW if it's not a safe space.

That's it! If you feel there's something we need to add, please let us know, and we're so excited to start this project with all of you!

DFTBW,
Love,
Wyatt and Asie
